Robert S. Grossman, Esq.

Robert Grossman's practice is focused in the areas of matrimonial and family law, real estate law, and commercial law.

Mr. Grossman personally works with each client to help them plan realistic goals within the bounds of the law to seek an efficient resolution. Understanding that clients often prefer to resolve their disputes out of court, Mr. Grossman helps to craft creative solutions that may be required to resolve complex issues. But, when settlement cannot be achieved, he aggressively pursues each client's goals without losing sight of the repercussions on the client, the client’s family, business/profession/career and otherwise.

From the outset, Mr. Grossman works with each client to develop a detailed plan, including a post-litigation plan, often with alternatives to try to plan for variables/contingencies. You could proceed without a plan, but we do not like to leave an opportunity for any surprises. Similarly, you could embark upon a road trip to visit another state without a map or GPS. While you may eventually arrive at your destination, you are likely to encounter surprises, such as unnecessary complications and delays from roadwork, detours, etc., each of which may result in significant expense, delays, and/or emotional costs.

Mr. Grossman's work in the field of matrimonial and family law began over twenty years ago when a commercial client asked for a “favor” and asked for assistance in a matrimonial dispute. That client then recommended him to others.

Since that time, Mr. Grossman has accumulated extensive experience in all aspects of matrimonial and family law matters including:

  • pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements
  • separation agreements
  • child custody and visitation issues
  • relocation disputes
  • child support and spousal support (maintenance) issues
  • equitable distribution of assets and liabilities
  • valuation issues
  • family court matters including family offenses/orders of protection
  • And post-judgment enforcement and modification proceedings.

Mr. Grossman is also experienced in appellate practice.

Before practicing law, Mr. Grossman worked in other businesses in various capacities, but started from the “ground up”. His business and commercial experience gives him the benefit of a practical perspective on financial issues that often arise in matrimonial disputes.

Mr. Grossman is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and holds an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell®. He has also been selected as a New York Super Lawyer in family law each year since 2012, an honor bestowed on a small percentage of attorneys in a particular area of practice, and he has been included in “Best Lawyers in America” as well. His affiliations also include the Matrimonial Law Committee and Family Court Practice and Procedure Committee of the Nassau County Bar Association, and the Family Law Section of the New York State Bar Association. Mr. Grossman is currently on the board of directors for the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, New York Chapter. He has also served as a member of the Board of Directors of a Housing Authority and was President of a Co-op Board. Mr. Grossman has lectured on topics in matrimonial and family law, and has authored articles including “Unpaid Fees and Fee Dispute Arbitration” (Nassau Lawyer, Vol. 61, No. 9, May 2012), "The Child Support Lottery" (Family Law Review, New York State Bar Association, Vol. 43, No. 1), "The Trivialization of Fault as a Factor Effecting Equitable Distribution" (Family Law Review, New York State Bar Association, Vol. 40, No. 3), and most recently, "Mask or No Mask: A Critical Look at Post-Pandemic Issues Surrounding Families, Children, and Those of Us Working in This Field" (Nassau Lawyer, Vol. 72, No. 9, May 2023).

Mr. Grossman has also been called upon to act as a "special prosecutor" for certain local municipalities from time to time, serves as a fee dispute arbitrator, and as a Special Master from time to time as well. Mr. Grossman has also been selected to serve as a member of the Grievance Committee where he assists in the review of complaints alleging ethical violations by other attorneys.

Mr. Grossman is admitted to practice law in New York, Washington, D.C., before the U.S. Southern and Eastern District Courts of New York and the U.S. Court of Appeals in the Second Circuit. He has also appeared in other jurisdictions at the request of clients and with the assistance of local counsel. He holds a B.A. from New York University where he studied economics, and a Juris Doctor from The University of Miami School of Law, where he graduated with honors, was an Articles and Comments Editor for the University of Miami Entertainment & Sports Law Review and a member of the Moot Court Board.
